Personal Profile

Ron Hodson

  • I was born in 1933 and went to Plodder Lane C C before going to FGS in 1943. I went through to the 6th form then on to MU where I received a BSc in Pharmacy.

  • Relieved not to do national service, I joined TWT and managed a pharmacy in — of all places — Plodder Lane.

  • From there, after marrying Norma (ex Bolton County), we moved to Twickenham, Malvern, Billericay (sounds better than Basildon!) and Swansea.

  • We now live in Swindon where I still practice my "art" two days a week. Not much time for many activies except for walking on the Downs and in the Cotswolds and various art classes.

  • We have two daughters: one lives locally, the other in London.

  • My time at FGS was in III alpha, then in the "a" classes up to the VIth form. Always enjoyed sport, as can be seen in some of the Wrinklies' Corner photos. Was vice-captain in second year VIth for both soccer and cricket and won the senior Victor Ludorum in both years in the VIth.

  • I was also Head Boy for the shortest time possible — my first choice (Durham) was not accepted, so I left FGS for Man Univ. after just one week as Head Boy.
