- I was at FGS from 43 to 48 in the A class. When I left I went to work in the laboratory at Magnesium Elektron at Clifton Junction taking a day release course at Bolton Tech doing Inter BSC. Whilst there I met my husband-to-be, Ron Shackleton who was a research chemist there. We married in 1950 and during the next eight years we produced three daughters: Anne,Lynn and Janet.
- Ron was with MEL for 15 years, progressing through plant and sales management and from living in Worsley we moved to Cheshire, Middlesex and Devon. After this Ron became Managing Director of two different companies and we moved to Bucks, Cheshire, Sussex and finally retired back to Cheshire to be near the family in 1995.
- During the latter years I worked for Wedgewood, DHSS, Royal Worcester, Daresbury Nuclear Physics Lab and finally before moving to Sussex I worked for Derbyshire C.C. as a Home Care manager for 9 years, taking a management course day release at Derby College.
- After moving to Sussex I worked as County Food Organiser for the WRVS as a volunteer. On returning to Disley, Cheshire in '95 Ron and I became volunteers at Lyme Hall and which I am still doing.
- Ron died suddenly in Feb 2003 and I have kept busy moving to a smaller bungalow, working at Lyme and helping with my Grandsons. I have three, and two of them live a few miles away. I have also been kept busy going to concerts and the cinema and I enjoy travel and driving.
