- Born in Chorley (1929). Drummed out of Wolf Cubs (1940). Left FGS in 1946 to join Royal Navy.
- Married for more than 54 years to Isabel Hamilton (Bangor, Northern Ireland), my constant companion, who died suddenly in May 2005. We have three daughters, two sons and five lovely grandchildren.
- Occupation: unfrocked Fleet Air Arm radio technician, later technical author/editor/translator specialising in electronics and optics.

jazz fan. One-time practising trad trombonist (Winchester City Jazz Band, 1952). Never became good at it though, despite all the practising.

dining annually with old RN friends and their wives.
