Personal Profile

Dr. Keith Boothby

  • FGS 1943 - 1950
  • Did medicine at Manchester.
  • Being rubbish at ball games, took up rowing and for last three years was President of the University Boat Club and stroke of the first four.
  • Qualified 1956. House jobs at M/cr Royal and Withington. Senior House jobs at Oldham and District.
  • 1958: Married Pat, a fellow medic.
  • 1959: Came to Peterborough to take up an assistantship in GP for 6 months.
Still here! Didn't mean to stay - honest...
  • Two daughters, two grandchildren and a happy professional life. Retired, knackered, at 60 in 1991 - feel much better now!
  • Whilst at FGS, A. Wilson (Headmaster) showed us an amateur film of a prewar sailing holiday on the Broads and fired my enthusiasm. Took various charter hols sailing and, after 10 years dinghy racing, bought my first cruising boat (sail) in '77. Since then Pat and I have cruised from the Friesians N of Holland to the Med in a leisurely fashion - taking in most of the watering holes and restaurants on the way.
  • Last year we sold our yacht and bought a motor boat presently based in Majorca (Andratx) so if you see a Menorquin 110 "Frances Louise" (2nd names of our daughters) on your travels do make your number (nautical expression meaning give us a knock).
  • Did an Open University French course a few years ago which reinforced my opinion of what a thorough grounding we were given at FGS
