Personal Profile

Harry Baggs

    • Born & brought up in Walkden. Attended Walkden Moor Methodist School before arriving at FGS in 1948. Left in 1953, having been "alpha" based throughout and also a Spartan.
    • Started work in Manchester with the CWS Ltd. (Co-operative Wholesale Society) Engineers' Office and missed National Service due to studying to become qualified as a Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning design/contract engineer.
    • Progression, including achieving Membership of C.I.B.S.E. (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers), enabled me to 'carve out' a 'one-company' career. The latter years proved very interesting when undertaking Design/Consultancy roles for N. Ireland projects, including regular visits.
    • Completed 40 years' service and then had the fortunate opportunity to take early retirement.
    • Familywise, I married Gill in Liverpool in 1966 and made our home in Walkden, where we had three sons. The elder two are married and live in Farnworth and Ashton-Under-Lyne, the youngest in Wales, and we have two step-grandchildren.
    • Sport has always been my greatest hobby, both as a participant and supporter, especially cricket, football, tennis and darts. I played a couple of seasons for the Old Farnworthians A & B football teams; they are now known as Little Lever F.C. and still play in the Lancs. Amateur League.
    • From 1978 to '94 I was Group Scout Leader of the 5th Worsley Memorial Rd. Methodist Scout Group
    • In Sept. '94 Gill and I moved to Criccieth, N. Wales and enjoy our retirement lifestyle in lovely surroundings. I took up golf (now 20 handicap), which I thoroughly enjoy — playing regularly and I have been Seniors' Organiser for five years.
