- When it became obvious that I was not university-inclined, the then headmaster Mr. Rice organised an Engineering Apprenticeship for me with de Havilland Propellers at Lostock
- After leaving FGS in 1955, I returned for the annual Old Boys v 1st XI football match, in which I scored the equaliser — much to the relief of the OBs' captain Allan Hutchinson. That was my last contact with FGS.
- During the next five years I successfully completed an external degree course in Mechanical Engineering at Salford Technical College (part-time day release and night school — university would have been easier!)
- I then joined B.O.C. in the Midlands, living in Penkridge (just south of Stafford) from 1966 to 1970.
- Finally I moved to the steel companies in South Wales, where I joined BP Chemicals and stayed until I retired 10 years ago. I now live in a small village called Penperlleni, south of Abergavenny.
- My wife Mary and I have been married since 1962; we have three sons and four grandchildren.
- Unfortunately my health has not been good during the previous two years; I suffered two strokes but I keep taking the tablets.
- I would be very pleased to receive e-mail from any old friends who may read this. My e-mail address is EKnight118@aol.com.
