- I left Farnworth after taking my GCE’s and joined the Post Office Telephones in the Manchester Area, later to become British Telecom.
- I continued my education to gain qualifications in communications and management at Openshaw and Salford Technical Colleges. My further studies were broken by two years National Service in the Royal Signals, 53 - 55.
- I married Marian in 1960 so we are now rapidly approaching our golden wedding.
- Football or cricket were never my favourite games, so I usually finished up in the “scraps”. However I later took up dinghy sailing at the Civil Service Sailing Club at Jumbles Reservoir north of Bolton, where I eventually served as Commodore for about 5 years. I later progressed to a sailing cruiser that I moored at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, where I now have my second home.
- I took early retirement from BT in 1990, but since then have served as a volunteer adviser with the Citizens Advice Bureau.
