Personal Profile

Brenda Clay
(now Cardwell)

  • After I left FGS I went to St. Katharine's Teacher Training College in Liverpool, and then up to Derwent Hill in Keswick for the 2nd. year. There started my love of hill walking.
  • When I qualified I got a post teaching in St. John's school in Kearsley. I was there about 6 years.
  • I was married in 1960, and we lived in Smithills Bolton. There my daughter was born. After 2 years my husband got a job as Efficiency Engineer at Rugeley Power Station and we moved to Walton-on-the-hill, 3 miles from Stafford and on the edge of Cannock Chase. Two years later my son was born. Our children are both married now (my son to a Polish girl) and we have one granddaughter.
  • Whilst the children were at school I had several part -time teaching jobs. I finally ended up teaching for about 40 years!
  • I have had numerous illnesses and about 9 operations, 4 at least life-threatening, but I always seem to survive! ( so far !)
  • My hobbies are almost too many to mention,( but I will). Gardening, rambling, daily dog-walking ( a bearded collie), silver-smithing, German, Local History, Flower Club, painting, Tai Chi ,and now --computing!
  • In summer we go caravanning — all over England and Europe — and we have toured by camper van (RV) through the Canadian Rockies.
  • Personally I am 5 ft. 1 inch tall and 9 st. 10 lbs. I have brown/blonde/grey-at-the-sides hair — and Wrinkles!
  • Not a very exciting life I must say when you actually see it put down on paper!
