- 1955: Left the confines of FGS for Sheffield University.
- 1959: Having obtained a Honours Maths degree I started teaching at King
Edward VII School Lytham St Annes, a Direct Grant School.
- 1961: Moved to Hastings Grammar School in Sussex. In Hastings I played a
great deal of cricket and football for Hastings Ramblers and Old Hastonians.
- 1968: Became Head of Department at Nottingham Bluecoat G.S.
- 1976: Still in Nottinghamshire but now Head of Department at the Minster
School Southwell where I found myself teaching the son of one of my first
Lytham
pupils.
- 1986: A final move to Weybridge in Surrey to the post of Head of Department
at St George's College, an Independent School.
- 1997: Retirement and an escape from all those years of mathematics and pupils
of widely differing ability.
- After 42 years of marriage, and at the last count, our son in Australia
had presented us with two grandchildren and our daughter in Germany had gone
one better.
