- I was born in 1932. From Kearsley West CS I went to FGS in 1943 and left from the 6th Form in 1950. From there I went to Leeds University where in 1953 I gained a BA in Geography/Geology and in 1954 a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.
- 1954-1956 were my two years of National Service as a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Artillery.
- In 1956 I married Maureen (née Haworth). Mo was at Leeds University from 1953 to 1956. We have one daughter, Christine, who at present is Deputy UK Delegate to UNESCO in Paris.
- At school I was no great sportsman but I was one of a small group who restarted the 3rd Farnworth (Grammar School) Scout Troop. In 1948 I was the first to gain the King's Scout Award.
- In 1956 I started teaching at a secondary modern in Leeds, then at a Boys and a Mixed Grammar School through to a Technical College, to finish as a Lecturer in Geology at Bradford College. From here I took early retirement, via voluntary redundancy, in 1985.
- We started married life in Leeds where we met, and in a city we knew and liked. In 1973 we moved to Keighley, and I think we are permanently settled here.
- I was always an outdoor person. Now the camping and sailing are over but I am still an active walker and cyclist. In my long retirement there seems to be less and less time to enjoy all my interests and hobbies. I wonder how I ever found the time to work!
