- Left F.G.S. in 1947 to become an apprentice motor mechanic at Rootes Ltd. in Manchester.
- 1952-1954: National service in R.E.M.E.
Served on Canvey Island floods, Coronation
and in Malaya (attached to the 2/6 Gurkha Rifles) — all in 1953.
- Demobbed in 1954, then territorial army for 11 years in Bolton.
- Worked for Westinghouse Hobbs in Walkden as service engineer, College Motors,
Rochdale as service manager, Vale Motor Co, as general manager and Automobile
Palace, Llanfairpwll....gogogoch, Anglesey as group service manager & general manager.
- Finished work in 1993, 3 years short of retirement age.
- Married in 1953 to Jean Margret Jones of Swinton while still in the army. Lived in Wardley, then Rawtenstall and then Amlwch in Anglesey.
- Four children: Lynn 47, Patricia 46, Andrew 40 and Chris 36. Lynn lives in
Spain with daughter Becky, Patricia in Darwen, Lancs with daughter Laura, Andrew in Amlwch with daughter
Stephanie, and Chris in Lancaster with son Gavin and daughter Amy.
- My wife died in 1993. My sister Eva lived here since she moved from Bolton in 1999, but sadly she passed away in July 2002 at the age of 86.
- My brothers Harold and Stanley are both deceased.
- I am very fit, soon to be 71 and kept busy on practical things.
